BERKELEY, Calif. -- An 18-year-old Berkeley man turned himself in early Wednesday morning after police identified him on Monday as a possible suspect in the Sunday shooting of four people in Berkeley. Gabriel Alejo turned himself over to police around 4:30 a.m. and was booked in to the Santa Rita County Jail. Police said he faces four counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Witness cooperation had identified Alejo as a possible suspect who had fired shots from a handgun, striking one man in the arm and injuring three women with shrapnel in front of a residence in the 1500 block of Russell Street just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. Berkeley police officers executed a search warrant later Sunday morning at Alejo's residence in the 1900 block of Sixth Street, but Alejo was not home. Alejo is being held on $100,000 bail and will be arraigned on Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 112 of the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington St., Oakland.
