SAN JOSE -- A 20-year-old man who allegedly shot at police officers early Friday morning during a routine traffic stop in San Jose was arrested just before 12:30 p.m., a police sergeant said. Heriberto Plancarte, of San Jose, was stopped around 1:30 a.m. at Tully Road and Monterey Highway for not having a front license plate, Sgt. Mike Sullivan said. After being pulled over, in what was later found to be a stolen car, Plancarte allegedly jumped out of the car, fired at officers, and jumped a fence into the Pepper Tree Estates mobile home park, located at 2150 Monterey Highway."At 1-2 o’clock in the morning, generally there are just bad guys or paperboys or cops on the street,” he said. “You are trying to do selective enforcement, trying to get the bad guys in jail.” A second suspect in the sedan was taken into custody for possession of a stolen car, Sullivan said. Officers combed the mobile home park for close to 11 hours before locating Plancarte hiding, Sullivan said. A SWAT team and canine unit sealed off the park to assist with the search. He has been taken into custody and will be taken to the Santa Clara County main jail. No officers were hurt in the incident, Sullivan said.
