More Victims Possible In Vallejo Retirement Home Fire

Posted: 10:34 pm PDT August 19, 2008

The manager of Casa de Vallejo, the scene of an eight alarm fire Friday, told KTVU Tuesday night that three of the residents remain unaccounted for. They are identified as Harold Fortune, George Long and Darlene Long. George and Darlene Long are not related.

Vallejo Police want to hear from anyone who knows where these three people may be. They might have simply left the scene and now be living elsewhere.

The fire last Friday killed two residents. One was identified as 74 year old John Argente. The other victim's name has not yet been released because his family has not yet been notified.

Fire officials said the fire started on the sixth floor in the room of the unnamed victim. Argente lived in the adjacent room. The cause appears to have been accidental. The fire was first reported at 3:40 a.m. and burned for more than six hours before it was brought under control.

More than 100 residents were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross and the Solano County Department of Health and Social Services have been helping them find long-term housing and replacing their lost items.
