SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A 38-year-old man died while in custody Tuesday night after resisting arrest and ingesting an unknown amount of a controlled substance, San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said this afternoon. Prince Swayzer III was pulled over near North Third and Hensley streets around 6:30 p.m. on suspicion of narcotics trafficking, Thomas said. During the stop Swayzer allegedly became combative and struggled with the three officers. He is also believed to have ingested an unknown amount of a controlled substance. Swayzer was shot with a Taser gun and was finally subdued, Thomas said. Fire and medical personnel responded but Swayzer refused medical treatment. Swayzer was transported to a local hospital, where he also refused medical aid, and he died shortly after, Thomas said. The San Jose police's Homicide Unit is investigating the case. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Detective Anthony Hattey or Detective David Anaya at (408) 277-5283.
