SAN FRANCISCO -- A 36-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed in the back while playing a game of cards with an acquaintance Wednesday evening in San Francisco, police said Thursday. Officers responded to the first block of Niagara Avenue in the city's Ingleside neighborhood shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the back, Sgt. Wilfred Williams said. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but has since been listed in stable condition, Williams said. The suspect, 51-year-old San Francisco resident Augusto Soriano, attempted to flee and was chased down the street by police, who arrested him at the corner of Geneva Avenue and Paris Street, Williams said. Investigators believe Soriano and the victim had been playing cards when the game turned violent and Soriano stabbed the victim, Williams said. Soriano was booked into jail for aggravated assault with a knife, Williams said.
