SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police this evening arrested a man who entered a Financial District office building earlier in the day and threatened employees of a law firm with a fake bomb. Antonio Scardino, 44, walked into a law firm office on the 30th floor of 275 Battery St. around 12:40 p.m. with a white plastic device strapped around his waist, police Sgt. Neville Gittens. Floors 20-30 of the building were evacuated, and Battery Street was temporarily shut down while a police bomb squad was called in. The device was detached from Scardino and it was determined this evening that it did not contain explosive material, according to Gittens. By 4:45 p.m. all floors of the building except the 30th were accessible to the public. A short time later all floors reopened, Gittens said. Scardino was booked on two felony charges. One was for making criminal threats and the other was for intent to frighten the law firm employees. Gittens did not specify which firm was allegedly threatened but the law firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP is located on the 30th floor of that building. Gittens couldn't specify why the suspect had targeted that specific law firm but said he had previously had some type of disagreement with the firm. According to Gittens, Scardino does not have a local address.
