HAYWARD, Calif. -- A man suspected in the brazen fatal daylight shooting of an 18-year-old dead at the Hayward BART station a week ago has been arrested, according to company spokesman Jim Allison. Hayward resident Kentwan Hawkins, 20, was arrested at a Stockton residence Sunday and was believed to have been in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest, Allison said. Hawkins was suspected of shooting Joshua Ligons, 18 and also a Hayward resident, at the sidewalk entrance to the Hayward BART station around 12:40 p.m. on Oct. 13, according to Allison. Ligons collapsed with life-threatening wounds near a fare gate and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injures, Allison said. A 77-year-old Fremont man who is not affiliated with Ligons or Hawkins was injured in the shooting but is expected to survive, according to Allison. Police do not believe the shooting was a random act, Allison said.
