CLAYTON, Calif. -- Clayton police have determined that a man whose body was found in the street in front of Mt. Diablo Elementary School early Thursday morning likely died of self-inflicted injuries.Police initially reported that the case appeared to be a homicide, but after a preliminary investigation, they determined the man's death was most likely a suicide. The man, a 25-year-old Washington State resident, had been visiting family in the area and had a history of mental illness, police said.He was reportedly out walking in the area near the elementary school, located at 5880 Mt. Zion Drive, when he killed himself, police said. His body was found at about 5:30 a.m. in the crosswalk in front of the school. The death prompted school officials to close the school for the day and call in a crisis counselor to talk to students when school reopens Friday, according to Principal Bob Dodson."There is no evidence to suggest any foul play in this case," police said Thursday afternoon. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday and police are continuing to investigate the man's death.
