Posted: 10:22 pm PDT October 24, 2008

A reward to help find whomever shot and killed two horses in the East Bay this week has been increased to $7,500.

The reward comes from private donations and from international animal protection group "In Defense of Animals."

The horses were found at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in their pasture on Collier Canyon Road in a remote area of unincorporated Contra Costa County near the Alameda county line.

A calf also was shot to death a short distance away, investigators say.

Conta Costa County Sheriff's investigators confirmed Friday that the same 22-caliber gun was used to kill all three animals.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department.
