A taxicab emerging from the San Francisco’s heavily traveled Broadway Tunnel early Friday was struck by a brick that crashed through the windshield and injured the driver, authorities said.

San Francisco police said the attack took place about 1:45 a.m. when a Town Cab with three women passengers in the back was stricken by a brick dropped from the Hyde Street overpass some 30-40 feet above the tunnel.

The brick crashed through the windshield striking the driver in the shoulder. The driver was able to maintain control of the cab and bring it to a safe stop.

Police said the driver appeared to suffer an arm injury and he was transported to the hospital for treatment. The three passengers were not injured in the incident.

The attack, police said, appeared to be random and remained under investigation.
