"MORNINGS ON 2" presents TICKET 2's DAY
One of the most enduringly popular creations of Broadway heavyweight Andrew Lloyd Webber, 'The Phantom of the Opera' has a special history with the city of San Francisco. When the musical's first national tour opened at the Curran Theatre in November 1993, it ended up running for a astounding five-year engagement that broke local box office records.Based on the classic novel 'Le Fantôme de l'Opera' by Gaston Leroux, the musical tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command. The original creative team that opened 'Phantom' for its world premiere in London during the '80s has reunited to put on this extravagent national tour with Gillian Lynne handling musical staging and choreography Maria Bjornson taking care of the elaborate production design. For this special holiday engagement at the Orpheum, John Cudia leads the 36-member company in the role of The Phantom, while Trista Moldovan plays female lead Christine and native South Bay actor Kyle Barisich portrays Raoul.
