Rush Hour Delivery On BART

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- Most Bay Area commuters will agree that rush hour can get a little hectic, but certainly none have felt the urgency that a San Leandro woman felt as she went up to the escalator at the San Leandro BART station Friday morning.According to BART spokesman Linton Johnson, a mother accompanied by her 2-year-old child was just about to step off the escalator when she went into labor. A station agent and a police officer helped her until paramedics arrived and delivered the baby. After she gave birth, the family was taken to Eden Medical Center where Johnson said they seemed to be in good health. Johnson wasn't there for the birth, but he said, "They were trying to keep it as private as one can at a busy BART station."He did not say if the arrival was on time or not.
