Pendergraph And Sun Devils Cruise Past Stanford

Posted: 9:35 pm PST January 2, 2009

(Sports Network) - Jeff Pendergraph poured in a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as No. 17 Arizona State routed Stanford, 90-60, in the Pac-10 opener for both schools.

James Harden added 17 points and 10 assists for the Sun Devils (12-1, 1-0 Pac-10), who have won eight straight games. Derek Glasser ended with 13 points and six helpers in the win.

Lawrence Hill tallied 14 points for the Cardinal (10-1, 0-1), who will next face Arizona on Sunday. Anthony Goods gave nine points in defeat.

Will Paul's layup brought Stanford within 19-14 around the midway point of the first half, but Arizona State responded with a 15-4 run.

Rihards Kuksiks' layup sparked the surge and Pendergraph's dunk closed it out with 5:03 left for a 34-18 Sun Devils lead.

ASU led 43-30 at the intermission.

Harden's layup and free throw, and Jamelle McMillan's three-pointer gave the Sun Devils a 66-45 lead with just over 11 minutes left in the game.

The visitors cruised the rest of the way.

Game Notes

This is the Sun Devils' best start since going 15-1 in 1974-75...Stanford still owns a 37-28 series lead over Arizona State, and the teams split a pair of meetings a year ago...ASU will play California on Sunday.
