VALLEJO, Calif. -- Well-known cosmetic surgeon and television personality Dr. Jan Rudalgo Adams was sentenced to one year in the Solano County jail for misdemeanor DUI in Benicia in June. Adams asked for the one-year sentence rather than a probationary term so he could get his physician's license back, defense attorney Michael Cardoza said Tuesday afternoon. Adams was sentenced Monday in Solano County Superior Court in Vallejo and will report to the Solano County jail Feb. 6, Cardoza said. He has eight days credit for time served. Adams made headlines in 2007 as the cosmetic surgeon who operated on rapper Kanye West's mother the day before she died. He was arrested in Benicia June 26 on suspicion of drunken driving after he was spotted driving the wrong way on Interstate Highway 680, according to the California Highway Patrol. Adams, a 54-year-old Laguna Beach resident, was reportedly driving his 2004 Jaguar XJ8 south in the northbound lanes of the highway at about 2:40 a.m., the CHP said in June. Several callers reported the vehicle to the CHP and officers pulled Adams over on Highway 680 at Lake Herman Road. Officers arrested Adams for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. CHP Officer Craig Kuehl said he was cooperative at the time of the arrest. Cardoza said Adams' blood-alcohol level was 0.20 percent and that he has two prior DUI convictions in Los Angeles County. Adams' drinking was from stress related to the death of West's mother, Cardoza said.
