SFO -- An Australian airline Wednesday flew the Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane in the world, on the aircraft's first commercial flight to San Francisco International Airport, organizers said. The jumbo plane replaced Qantas airline's regular aircraft on the Sydney to San Francisco flight as part of G'Day USA, a promotion of "all things Australia" by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Austrade, Tourism Australia and Qantas, according to the airline. G'Day USA 2009 ran Tuesday and today in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to the festival Web site. The event seeks to demonstrate Australia's market to U.S. residents. The Airbus A380, a low-maintenance aircraft with low fuel emissions, was greeted at SFO Wednesday morning by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom before a series of other Australia-themed events were held.
