SONOMA CO., Calif. -- Four men have been arrested for assaulting a Graton man at his residence during a burglary Thursday morning.

Three of the men also were arrested for attempted kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime and destruction of a telephone line, said Sgt. Tim Duke of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department .

The sheriff's department went to the residence in the 3000 block of Highway 116 in Graton around 11:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call.

The male caller said several subjects were on the front porch attempting to fight him, Duke said. Two minutes later the caller said the subjects had entered his residence. The phone line was then disconnected, Duke said.

Deputies responded and arrested Nicholas Andrew Brown, 20, of Belfair, Wash., Steven Robert Chestnut, 24, and Brian Allan Roche, 23, both of Santa Rosa.

The victim suffered multiple injuries to his head, face and torso and was rushed to a hospital by ambulance, Duke said. He was later released and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, Duke said.

Detectives executed search warrants and conducted interviews and recovered a semi-automatic handgun that was used during the assault, Duke said.

Detectives also learned that Joel Matteus Durkin, 23, of Penngrove, an associate of the victim, helped lure the victim to the other three suspects before the assault, Duke said.

Durkin was arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail but has posted bail.

Brown, Chestnut and Roche were booked into the Sonoma County jail for attempted kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, residential burglary, destruction of a telephone line and conspiracy to commit a crime. Brown also was charged with terrorist threats. All three are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Sonoma County Superior Court.

The sheriff's department has not released any other information about the motive for the burglary and assault.
