To win, just watch Mornings on 2 every Tuesday for the "secret word" of the day, then come to KTVU.com and enter to win. Read the rules. This week, one lucky Ticket 2's Day winner will win a pair of tickets to see classic-rock singer Rod Stewart at HP Pavilion in San Jose on August 4th, 2009.
Raspy Throated Classic Rocker Comes To San Jose
With his raspy, blues-soaked voice, spiky hair and fiercely devoted female following, singer Rod Stewart has prevailed as one of the most popular rock artists to emerge from the golden era of the '70s. Coming to fame as the lead singer of guitarist Jeff Beck's first post-Yardbirds group, Stewart went on to make influential albums with boozy blues-rockers the Faces (whose act the Black Crowes essentially lifted wholesale in the late '80s) while rising to worldwide stardom as a solo artist.Mixing R&B, folk and country influences with a ragged-throated delivery, Stewart ably interpreted other people's songs (covering of the Rolling Stones, the Temptations and others) while penning such timeless hits as "Gasoline Alley," "Every Picture Tells A Story," and "Mandolin Wind."Though his brilliant early '70s albums overshadow most of what followed -- from his flirtations with disco and new wave to his more mature and reflective recordings in the '80s -- Stewart has remained a presence on rock radio and a perennially popular touring attraction. His latest recorded effort finds Stewart trying his hand at songs made famous by Bob Dylan ("If Not for You"), Credence Clearwater Revival ("Have You Ever Seen The Rain?") and the Eagles ("The Best of My Love") on 'Still the Same... Great Rock Classics of Our Time.'Note: Winners receiving tickets at a venue's Will Call window will need an ID that matches the name on the ticket list. You must show picture ID to obtain the tickets. TICKETS ARE NOT TRANSFERRABLE.
