LAFAYETTE -- A 20-year-old Orinda man died in an apparent suicide after flinging himself from a vehicle traveling on westbound state Highway 24 in Lafayette late Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man was in the passenger seat of a 2006 Honda Accord that was traveling at about 70 mph when, at about 11:05 p.m., he opened his door and jumped out of the vehicle on Highway 24 just east of Pleasant Hill Road, according to the CHP. The man was discovered on the right hand shoulder of the highway by a passing motorist who initiated CPR and called 911, according to the CHP. Emergency crews arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
