Beauty Shop Beatdown Investigated By Oakland Police

Posted: 8:13 am PDT June 10, 2009

An alleged assault on an Oakland hair stylist caught on videotape and posted on YouTube was being investigated by the Oakland police department, authorities said.

Police told KTVU that Melissa Seals, the stylist shown being pummeled on the tape, sat down with investigators on Tuesday and identified her alleged assailants.

Seals waited about a month before going to the police and only after family members urged her to come forward.

“When at first you don't want to press charges and then you do because a family member is making you, it’s very difficult for us,” said Oakland police officer Jeff Thomas.

On the video, Seals is shown being kicked and beaten by a group of women in her Oakland salon. However, neither Seals nor the police have revealed what may have triggered the attack.

Seals did tell KTVU she wanted her assailants punished.

“I want them in jail,” she said. “I don’t know what to say. I am just tired of crying about this.”
