Man Fatally Struck By Truck Following Attempted Carjacking

RODEO, Calif. -- A male was dragged to his death Tuesday by his friend's vehicle following an attempted carjacking near Rodeo in unincorporated Contra Costa County, a CHP officer said. CHP Officer Mike Wright said a male was driving a Ford F-150 truck in the 1000 block of Mariposa Street when he ran into a friend at about 4:10 p.m. The friend attempted get into the truck at which point a third male walked up to the vehicle and tried to steal the car at gunpoint, Wright said. He said the suspect fired a shot and that the driver accelerated, hitting his friend and dragging him about 150 feet. The suspect fired more shots, but no one was injured in the gunfire. The victim who was dragged was taken to the hospital where he later died, Wright said. He said the driver went to the Hercules Police Department to report the incident. The CHP is leading the investigation into the collision and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the carjacking.
