The sounds of gay pride rang out in San Francisco Thursday night.

The annual Pride Concert was held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church on Franklin and Bush Streets.

This is the 31st year for the concert and the night's theme was "Let's Get Loud."

Some of the performers scheduled to play were the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, the Lollipop Guild and Vocal Minority.

It is one of the official events for San Francisco's pride celebration that culminates Sunday with the parade on Market Street.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots that marked the beginning of the gay and lesbian movement. It is named for the Stonewall Inn Bar in New York City. On June 28, 1969, a police raid on the bar turned into a riot. In the days that followed there were demonstrations. And within two years, gay rights groups were established in every major American city.
