LAKE SONOMA -- A 58-year-old man was rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter after getting lost while mountain biking in a remote area of Sonoma County near Lake Sonoma on Sunday night. The man became lost and disoriented on Bummer Peak and called 911 to request assistance. At about 9:50 p.m., the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department requested the CHP helicopter. With the assistance of dispatchers and sheriff's deputies, the helicopter crew was immediately able to locate the man, who was on an open ridge surrounded by trees and a cliff, according to the CHP. The area was difficult to access on foot, and would have required a 3-mile hike by ground rescue crews, CHP officials said. The man was airlifted from the spot where he was stuck, tired but uninjured, the CHP reported.
