HOLLISTER, Calif. -- Revelers rolled into Hollister even though its City Council canceled this year's motorcycle rally due to budget problems.

The rally, which draws thousands of people each year, began in 1947 and inspired the legendary movie "The Wild One" starring Marlon Brando.

While there is no official event, motorcycle riders began arriving on Friday morning. Among those who rolled into town were members of the Grass Valley chapter of the "Boozefighters" motorcycle club.

The club plans to hold a raffle. Members say official or not, they plan on coming to Hollister every year for the event. "This is our rally, we're here every year no matter what, whether the rally is here or not," says club member Tony "Locktite" Kotz. "Actually, 3 years ago, my wife and I got married here."

The unofficial headquarters of the rally is Johnny's Bar. The bar was a hangout for legendary biker "Wino Willie" Forkner. Forkner helped create the Hollister Motorcycle Rally.
