RICHMOND, Calif. -- Extra police officers were on patrol Sunday night in Richmond after another shooting in the city left one man dead and another two injured, the latest in a rash of recent shootings that have shaken the community. Officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to gunfire at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday morning where they found three men who had been shot while playing cards in a garage. All three men were transported to hospitals. One was pronounced dead and the other two were reported to be in stable condition, according to Lt. Manjit Sappal. Raw Video: Aftermath Of Sunday's Shooting In RichmondThis latest incident, ending a bloody week that left five people dead in seven shootings, is prompting some community members to reach out.Inside Richmond's Independent Community Church on Sunday, elder Raymond Landry urged his congregation to think before they act.“Something may have happened to you and you may have the right or feel you have the right to retaliate, we want to you to know you don't have to take matters into your own hands,” he said.Landry says he is trying to do his part with young people he encounters in the street. “If I see them doing something that is questionable, I'll stop whether I know them or not,” he said. ”I'll ask them their name. I'll build a relationship with them.”Police say at this point no arrests have been made in any of the shootings and they can not say whether any are connected. Detectives say their biggest challenge has been convincing community members to come forward with information.“We're still not sure what the root of the problem here,” said Sgt. Bisa French of the Richmond Police Dept. “We do believe this is different factions of the city that are feuding at this point. We don't know what the feud is about.”Police say they are cracking down on low level crimes such as loitering, drinking in public, and gambling in an effort to stem more serious offenses and generate new leads.“This is not a problem that the police department can solve on its own,” said French. “We need people to come forward and give us information.”Earlier this week, Richmond suffered six separate shooting incidents that resulted in seven injuries and four fatalities. The first shooting happened at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Interstate Highway 80 between Cutting Boulevard and MacDonald Avenue. The victim, 25-year-old Rickeasha Washington, was a passenger in a vehicle headed eastbound on I-80 when somebody in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle started shooting at them. The driver of the vehicle Washington was in continued on the highway until they reached a gas station in Pinole, where he asked for help. Washington was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The second shooting happened at 9:20 p.m. Monday in the 2400 block of Lancaster Drive in the city's Northern District, where police found 34-year-old Richmond resident George Brown suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The third shooting happened at about 11:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Sixth Street in Central Richmond, where police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.Just 15 minutes later, officers found two people hit by gunfire in the 800 block of Alamo Avenue in North Richmond, police said.A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in stable condition, but a man, 40-year-old Antoine Thomas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas was a Richmond resident and was not far from his home when he was killed, a Contra Costa County deputy coroner said.On Wednesday, yet another gunfight took place in the 4700 block of Hartnett Avenue in the city's Upper South Side neighborhood at around 12:15 a.m., where responding officers found four gunshot victims. Three were hospitalized and a fourth victim, 18-year-old Richmond resident Willie Brantley Jr., died at the scene, police said.On Thursday night, two people were wounded on the 500 block of Third Street at around 9:55 p.m., according to the Richmond Police Department. Officers found two shooting victims, a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, both wounded in the lower extremities, police said. The victims were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.Sunday's shooting brings the city's homicide total to 25 so far this year. At this time last year there had been 17 homicides.Anyone with information is asked to call the Richmond police homicide unit at (510) 620-6612 during business hours, or Sgt.
