Dog stolen from tree outside SF Whole Foods returns home

- A dog that was stolen from outside a grocery store is now home safe.

The dog is a six year old dachshund mix named "Goose."

Danielle Russo tells KTVU she went to Whole Foods on Fourth and Harrison streets around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. When she went into the store she wrapped Goose's leash around a tree directly across from the store.

She was in the store for about 15 minutes. When she returned, Goose was missing.

"It was a busy day. Lots of people around. I never imagined something like this would happen," said Russo.
Russo desperately searched the neighborhood and filed a police report.

Whole Foods called Russo around 5:45 p.m. to say a customer caught a man taking Goose on cellphone video.

The man also took photos. "Later the man who had taken the video messaged me. He said he thought something was strange but he didn't realize the dog was being stolen. You can tell from the video she doesn't want to go with him. It's heartbreaking for me to watch that video. I feel so helpless," said Russo.
The owner says the dog was taken at about 3:30 p.m.

Russo told us Wednesday that Goose had been returned home safe. Additional details on who stole Goose or how she was located have not been released.
