ORINDA, Calif. -- Firefighters have fully contained a brush fire that burned approximately 30 acres on the hillside above state Highway 24 at Fish Ranch Road near Orinda Tuesday afternoon, Cal Fire Capt. Tom Walker said. The blaze was contained shortly before 7 p.m. and crews are expected to remain in the area late into the night to monitor for hotspots, Walker said. The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on the Contra Costa County side of the Caldecott Tunnel. California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Kroncke said windy conditions caused flames to move quickly up the hill on the south side of Highway 24. The Fish Ranch Road on-ramp and off-ramp for eastbound Highway 24 remained closed as of 7 p.m., but no lane closures on the highway were required, according to the CHP. Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, Cal Fire, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, East Bay Regional Park District, Alameda County Fire Department and the Oakland Fire Department responded to the blaze. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
