SAN FRANCISCO -- Police have arrested two men and seized approximately 100 marijuana plants from a Sunset District home, marking the latest dismantling of a large-scale pot-growing operation in the city, a police lieutenant said.

Officers went to the home in the 2200 block of 36th Avenue, near St. Ignatius College Preparatory, at about 3 p.m. and seized 100 marijuana plants, four pounds of dry marijuana, $2,000 cash and growing equipment, Lt. Mike Kaplan said.

Monday afternoon's operation comes less than a week after law enforcement officials and city leaders joined to call attention to an apparent increase in pot grows in the city, especially in the Sunset District.

Police said at last week's news conference that sophisticated illegal marijuana grow operations had been uncovered at more than 30 homes in the past six months, most in the department's Taraval District, which includes parts of the Sunset, Taraval and Ingleside neighborhoods.

During those raids, officers seized more than 8,200 plants as well as nearly $85,000 in cash, 20 firearms and other drugs. Forty-four arrests were made in connection with those raids.

Fire officials have warned of the fire danger risk due to the large amounts of electricity required for the operations, and from some growers illegally bypassing electrical meters.

"We're going to continue to do these operations when the information is passed on to us," Kaplan said Monday evening.

Police did not say what information led to the discovery of the marijuana grow Monday.
