SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Department of Public Works is advising residents to prepare for the upcoming storm season, as forecasters project high winds and rain beginning Monday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a "potent storm system" will move into Northern California beginning late Monday and continuing through Wednesday morning. The system originates from a major typhoon that hit Japan earlier this week.

The North Bay can expect to see rain and strong winds beginning Monday afternoon, spreading south that night, according to the National Weather Service.

In San Francisco, residents are being warned of the possibility of flooding and downed tree limbs.

Free sandbags are available at the DPW Operations Yard at 2323 Cesar Chavez Blvd., open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a 10-bag limit per address.
