SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Police in San Jose are investigating a Thursday night crash that killed a 17-year-old and injured two other teens. The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified the victim as Ronald MacDowell, a resident of the Pioneer area of Amador County. Police said he was a passenger in the car when it ran off Santa Teresa Boulevard and overturned shortly after 10:30 p.m. The three teens were heading east, near Allen Avenue, when the driver lost control of the white Honda Civic, according to Officer Jermaine Thomas. The car crashed through a fence and hit a tree before overturning. MacDowell was pronounced dead at the scene, Thomas said. The car's two other occupants, age 18 and 19, were injured in the crash. One was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition, and the other suffered minor injuries, he said. Thomas said police are still investigating the cause of the crash, and do not know whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Speed was probably a factor, he said, but "it does not appear that there was a drag race."
