A car jacking suspect led police on a high speed chase across the closed Bay Bridge Friday night and into East Oakland.

California Highway Patrol told KTVU that the car jacking occurred at about 10:20 p.m. Friday night near San Francisco's AT&T Park.

The suspect managed to drive the stolen Dodge Nitro past barricades and onto the lower deck of the Bay Bridge, then across the closed bridge and into Oakland at speeds in excess of 100-miles per hour.

"We tried to stop the vehicle and it continued eastbound through the barricade," said CHP Officer Shawn Chase.

Officers pursued the suspect across the bridge, but stopped the chase due to safety concerns.

The vehicle was then found abandoned at about 10:35 p.m. at 79th Avenue and International Boulevard and Oakland police detained the suspect in the area short time later, Chase said.
