SAN JOSE -- Five people were hospitalized early Monay -- including four adults with special needs --- after a van was rear-ended on a San Jose street, authorities said. The accident was reported at 8:42 a.m. on Cottle Road just north of Santa Teresa Boulevard. Capt. Barry Stallard said a PT Cruiser rear-ended a van that was transporting about a dozen adults with special needs to a center in Santa Clara. Stallard said it appeared that the driver of the PT Cruiser failed to stop for traffic that had slowed ahead of her and slammed into the back of the van, pushing in the bumper about a foot. Four people inside the van were transported to hospitals complaining of neck and back pain. Two were taken to Valley Medical Center and two to O'Connor Hospital, he said. The woman driving the PT Cruiser complained of chest, back and neck pain and was taken to Valley Medical Center.
