Posted: 9:14 pm PST November 2, 2009

A bicyclist was fatally struck by an Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus Monday night near Tennyson Park in Hayward, a transit district spokesman said.

The 91-line bus was traveling on Huntwood Avenue and struck the bicyclist near the intersection of Lustig Court at about 6:50 p.m., AC-Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said.

The bicyclist was killed in the crash, he said. No passengers were injured.

Johnson said the streetlight at the intersection isn't working and it was dark when the crash happened.

The crash is under investigation by AC-Transit and the Hayward Police Department. As part of standard procedure, the bus driver will be placed on paid administrative leave and tested for drugs and alcohol.
