City And Town Council Races In Marin

Forty-one candidates were running for election to nine city and town councils in Marin County elections on Tuesday.

Incumbents Carla Condon, 63, a retired business owner, and businessman Michael Lappert, 57, are running for re-election to the Corte Madera Town Council.

Diane Furst, 45, a stay-at-home mom, and George Topor, 68, a retiree, are challenging the incumbents for the three available seats on the Town Council.

Seven candidates, including incumbents Susan Brandborg, 65, a retired teacher, and environmental attorney David Weinsoff, 51, are running for three seats on the Fairfax Town Council.

The other candidates are Wendy Baker, 60, a retired landscape architect; consultant Pam Hartwell-Herrero, 40, executive director of Sustainable Fairfax; Christopher Lang, 55, a member of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce's board of directors; firefighter William B. Madsen, 46, a former member of the Fairfax Planning Commission; and John Reed, 51, a member of the Fairfax General Plan Advisory Committee.

Larkspur Mayor Daniel Hillmer, 54, a consultant and architect, and Councilwoman Joan Lundstrum, 74, are running for re-election. Chris McCluney, 60, stock trader and chair of the Larkspur Planning Commission, and attorney Len Rifkind, 48, are also running for election to the three available Larkspur City Council seats.

There are two open seats on the Mill Valley City Council. The candidates are incumbents Andrew Berman, 50, currently the city's mayor, and Shawn E. Marshall, 44, a business consultant. They are challenged by George Gordon, 69, a financial investment advisor.

In Novato, Councilwoman Pat Eklund, 57, an environmental manager, is running for re-election to one of the two available seats on the City Council. The other candidates are businesswoman Denise Athas, 57, retiree John Coleman, 61, Eleanor Sluis, 73, a retired teacher and Eric Lucan, 28, a business consultant.

Incumbent San Anselmo Town Council members Peter Breen, 72, currently the town's mayor, Ted Freeman, 74, a retired teacher, and Judy House, 62, a health care administrator, are running for re-election.

The three challengers for the three available seats are Kay Coleman, 58, a retired teacher; Jeff Kroot, an architect and former San Anselmo Councilman; and attorney Tom McInerney, 46, a member of the Park and Recreation Commission.

San Rafael Vice Mayor Barbara Heller, 71, is running for re-election to one of the two available seats on the City Council.

The challengers are community banker Gary Ford, 54; retired adjudications officer Eric Holm, 44; Marc Levine, 35, executive director of a non-profit tsunami relief organization; and David Mayer, 53, an employment program representative.

Candidate Whitney Hoyt dropped out of the race.

Rene Buddy De Bruyn, 68, a realtor, and Carolyn Ford, 64, a small business owner, are running for election to the lone Sausalito City Council seat.

Three current planning commissioners are running for election to the three seats on the Tiburon Town Council. They are Jim Fraser, 63; John Kunzweiler, 54; and Emmett O'Donnell, 48.

Tiburon Mayor Alice Fredericks, 69, is running for re-election to the council and the fifth candidate is contractor Brian McCullough, 53.
