REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- A decomposing body was found Thursday in a Redwood City public swimming pool that had been covered since July, police said. A maintenance work found the body after lifting a portion of the cover of the Hoover Park swimming pool, according to police. The worker went to the pool, which closed in July, after neighbors reported a foul smell. Firefighters and medics responded to park in the 2100 block of Spring Street at about 2:30 p.m., but it was apparent the body had been in the water for some time and was decomposing, police said. The cause of the death is not clear and the body, which appears to be that of an adult male, has not been identified. The San Mateo County coroner's office will be investigating the cause of death and identity. An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for Friday afternoon, according to the coroner's office.
