Gang Members Linked To Tragic 2007 Drive-By Arrested

Hayward police Thursday announced the arrest members of a violent gang linked to several homicides including a 2007 drive-by shooting that left a four-year-old girl dead.

Hayward police said the Thursday arrests were just the tip of the iceberg.

Police said the suspects in the drive by shooting two years ago that resulted in the four-year-old girl's death among other homicides are members of a gang that has been in Hayward for decades: the DGF gang.

“The nickname DGF stands for ‘don't give a 'blank,’" said Hayward Police Capt. Darryl McAllister.

On the night of March 5 in 2007, three toddlers were playing in the front yard of a home on Seminole Way in South Hayward. Police reports say three people drove by in a car and opened fire on the home.

Thursday night a neighbor who didn't want to be identified described that violent evening.

“Me and my sister were in the house,” remembered the neighbor. “And we heard the shots and then we came out and we saw kids on the ground and the mom screaming.

Four-year-old Datasha Wilson was shot in the head and later died. Her four-year-old cousin Tatiana Coria also suffered head wounds and remains maimed to this day. In addition, a bullet grazed the head of Tatiana's three-year-old brother.

The Wilson family no longer lives in the home. It now has new owners.

Datasha's mother Emily Wilson told the Oakland Tribune Thursday "We kind of knew it was that gang. The family had gotten into a fist fight with gang members and we thought they came back for whatever reason.”

Police said two of the five arrested Thursday were involved in the shooting of the little girl, but wouldn't say much more.

“I don't want to necessarily tip our hand on what kind of evidence we have or don't have,” said Capt. McAllister. “But I can tell you we do have evidence and we have information. We are trying our best to get the most out of both of those.”

Police said two other gang members arrested Thursday -- a Hayward woman and a Walnut Creek boy -- were involved in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man and the wounding of his brother in June of this year.

The fifth alleged gang member, a man from Hayward, is a suspect in an attempted murder in Union City three months ago.

“This is a violent gang,” said Capt. McAllister. “This is a gang that has been around for a while and a gang we will not tolerate.”

Authorities said the suspects were all being held on no bail and face charges of murder and attempted murder. Police said they were withholding their identities until the investigation is completed.
