Three Teens Arrested In Fatal Police Carjacking Shooting

Three Richmond boys were in custody Monday in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking in San Pablo Saturday evening that led to a confrontation in which police fatally shot one of their alleged accomplices, authorities said.

Richmond police said the boys allegedly robbed a San Pablo couple at gunpoint, shot at them, and stole their Chevrolet Monte Carlo at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday near 23rd Street and Dover Avenue in San Pablo.

The carjacking victims were not hit by the gunfire.

San Pablo and Richmond police then chased the stolen car into Richmond, where it crashed into a parked vehicle in the 2600 block of Willart Drive.

The occupants got out and ran. Two San Pablo police officers chased one, later identified as 16-year-old Richmond resident Leonard Bradley, into a nearby field, police said.

During a confrontation that followed, police shot and killed Bradley.

Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said today that Bradley was unarmed at the time he was shot, but that a gun was found inside the stolen car.

Three other juveniles believed to have taken part in the carjacking were arrested Sunday morning, French said. The boys, whose names are being withheld because of their ages, were being held today on charges of carjacking, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on standard administrative leave during the investigation.
