REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- The 20-year-old son of former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds will stand trial in June on misdemeanor charges stemming from a fight with his mother in Menlo Park last year.

Nikolai Lamar Bonds has pleaded not guilty to the five misdemeanor charges filed against him in San Mateo County Superior Court and faces at least two years if convicted, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

At a hearing Wednesday, Commissioner Stephanie Garratt set a jury trial date of June 21 and a pretrial conference date of April 20, according to Wagstaffe.

Bonds is charged with one count of battery, one count of false imprisonment, one count of vandalism, one count of threatening a police officer and one count of obstructing a police officer.

The charges stem from a Dec. 5 altercation at his mother Sun Bonds' Menlo Park house, where Nikolai Bonds lives as well, according to Wagstaffe.

Police were notified at about 10 a.m. of an argument between the two.

Nikolai Bonds and his mother had apparently gotten into a fight about some jewelry that had been taken from the house, Wagstaffe said.

He said they were shouting, and that Bonds went into a bedroom and started smashing furniture.

Sun Bonds then called a friend, who called 911, and when she tried to leave the house her son allegedly prevented her from doing so, according to Wagstaffe.

Responding officers detained Nikolai Bonds, who then allegedly threatened one officer and the officer's family, Wagstaffe said.

Bonds was taken into custody. He posted $50,000 bail and was released at about 10 p.m. that same day.

Bonds appeared in court with his father Jan. 12 to enter his not-guilty plea. Barry Bonds did not attend the hearing Wednesday.

Barry Bonds joined the San Francisco Giants in 1993 and played for the team until 2007. He and Nikolai Bonds' mother, Sun Bonds, are divorced.
