Third Suspect Arrested In Richmond Church Shooting

A third Richmond teenager was arrested Tuesday in connection with a brazen Valentine’s Day church shooting that left the community outraged and two young victims hospitalized with gunshot wounds, police said.

The suspect, 18-year-old Marcel Buggs, of Richmond, was taken into custody at about 10:45 a.m. without incident, police Sgt. Bisa French said.

He arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm and a probation violation.

Buggs had been identified as a suspect in the case and officers had been conducting surveillance on him this week, she said. ' "We knew who he was for a while," French said.

The shooting occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 inside the New Gethsemane Church of God in Christ at 2100 Roosevelt Ave.

Three males wearing black hooded sweatshirts entered the church and shot the brothers, a 14-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, in front of about 100 people who were attending the service.

One brother was shot in the shoulder and the other in the leg. Both survived.

Four days after the shooting, police arrested the first suspect, a 15-year-old boy.

Two days after that, they arrested a second person, a 16-year-old boy.

Police have not released names of the boys, both Richmond residents, because they are juveniles
