Suspect In Weekend El Cerrito Shooting Arrested

OAKLAND, Calif. -- A 26-year-old Oakland man was arrested today in connection with a Saturday morning shooting in the city in which another man was critically injured, police said.Oakland police officers were notified at about 5 p.m. that Charles Edwards was near the Safeway grocery store at San Pablo Avenue and Moeser Lane in El Cerrito. He was arrested by Oakland police without incident on suspicion of attempted murder and was interviewed by detectives this evening.Edwards is suspected of shooting a 19-year-old man at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of Alvingroom Court. Following the shooting, police received word that Edwards lived on the street where the crime had occurred. A SWAT team was called out and the home was staked out until authorities made entry that night and found that the suspect was not there.The victim of the shooting remained in critical condition today, police said.
