RICHMOND, Calif. -- Two men were injured in a shooting Wednesday evening near the Hilltop Mall in Richmond, a police spokeswoman said. Officers responded to the Hilltop Drive overcrossing at Interstate Highway 80 at about 5:20 p.m. on reports of shots fired. Police Sgt. Bisa French said initial calls indicated gunfire was exchanged between the occupants of two vehicles. Two men in one of the vehicles suffered gunshot wounds and managed to drive themselves to Doctors Medical Center, French said. One of the victims is in critical condition and French described the other victim's injuries as non-life-threatening. Police did not release a description of the suspect vehicle. French said despite initial reports, there was no immediate evidence indicating that shots were fired from the victims' vehicle.
