SAN FRANCISCO -- A humid weather front rolled through the Bay Area Thursday night, triggering several lightning strikes and power outages to several thousand East Bay residents.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. reported that an outage -- possibly caused by a lighting strike -- in Walnut Creek around 4:15 p.m. left 6,566 people without power, according to PG&E spokesman Jason Alderman.
Repair crews restored the power to the affected customers in about an hour.
Around 10 p.m., another lightning strike knocked out power to thousands of Antioch and
Pittsburg residents.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company spokesman Michael McColl said
that a lightning bolt hit a power substation in Antioch at 8:17 a.m.,
knocking out power to 6,900 customers. Crews had restored power to 6,700 of
those customers by 10 p.m.
