SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- A Santa Cruz County grand jury indicted a truck driver Wednesday on
vehicular manslaughter and other charges in connection with a July accident
on State Highway 17 that left an infant dead and his parents maimed. Randy Lee Little, 44, was indicted on one count of felony
vehicular manslaughter, two felony counts of mayhem and five misdemeanor
counts of reckless driving in connection with the July 11 accident on Highway
17 south of Pasatiempo Drive that killed 8-month-old Alexis Marini and caused
each of her parents, Novie Harris and Steve Marini, to lose an eye.Three
other people are named in the indictment as having been injured in the crash. Santa Cruz County Assistant District Attorney Ariadne Symons said
if convicted Little faces anything from probation to state prison. A $105,000
arrest warrant has been issued for Little but Symons believes he may turn
himself in to authorities shortly. "I understand he's making arrangements to turn himself in,"
Symons said. According to court documents, Little failed to properly maintain
the breaks on his truck and drove recklessly and too fast on the treacherous
roadway that snakes through the Santa Cruz mountains between Silicon Valley
and the coast.
