Solano County Sheriff Deputy Killed In High-Speed Chase

FAIRFIELD -- The California Highway Patrol reported Saturday night that a Solano County Sheriff
was the victim of a fatal accident while pursuing a speeding
vehicle. According to the CHP, the incident occurred at 9:41 p.m., on
Cordelia Road just west of Hale Ranch Road, when the deputy attempted to pass
a slower vehicle while in pursuit. As the sheriff's vehicle exited a curve in
the road the vehicle's right tire entered the dirt on the edge of the roadway
and hit a large rock, overturning the patrol unit, according to the CHP. The deputy who was driving was ejected from the patrol unit, the
CHP reports, and thrown into a water-filled ditch. The deputy, and his passenger, were transported to North Bay
Hospital for treatment of the their injuries. According to the CHP, the
driver succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and the passenger suffered
minor injuries.
