SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- A University of California, Santa Cruz student has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of another student at his home, according to Sgt. Brad Goodwin. Carlos Bermeduz, 21, was arrested at his Kenneth Street home Sunday afternoon on suspicion of rape. Goodwin said the alleged victim, a 20-year-old woman, reported that she had been raped at the home between 1:30 and 6 a.m. on Friday. Detectives had been unable to locate the suspect after discovering he was not home while executing a search warrant. However, he was later arrested upon returning to the home, Goodwin said. Bermeduz and the victim were acquainted, however they were not in a dating relationship, according to Goodwin.
