SAN PABLO, Calif. -- A consultant for the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians today projected that the tribe's proposed casino in San Pablo would bring a combined $155 million to the city and county, and $618 million to California. Mark Dvorchak, of consulting firm Economic Research Associates, said in his economic benefit analysis presentation today that the casino is also projected to create an estimated 6,800 one-time jobs, primarily in construction. On an ongoing basis, the project is projected to generate 6,635 jobs, 2,930 of which would be full-time casino jobs with employee and family benefits. The consultant's projections were revealed just two days before the tribe representatives are expected to testify at a state Senate committee hearing, as part of negotiations for a gaming compact with the state. The Legislature failed last session to ratify an agreement that the tribe and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and agreed to in August. State legislators balked at the magnitude of the casino, stalling negotiations until the 2005 session. In response, the tribe reduced the number of slot machines it planned to install from 5,000 to approximately 2,500. The casino will also have 200 game tables, as well as 1500 restaurant and lounge seats in various establishments within the casino, according to spokesman Nick DeLuca.
