49ers fire head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke

49ers CEO Jed York spoke Monday from Levi's Stadium after the San Francisco 49ers have announced that both Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly have been relieved of their duties.

When asked why York himself shouldn't be dismissed from the team, he replied "I own this football team."

York apologized for the dismal 2-14 season.

The organization has begun its search for the team's next general manager and head coach.

Trent Baalke had confirmed that he has been fired as 49ers' GM earlier in the day Sunday.

The 49ers will lost to the Seahawks on Sunday, concluding a frustrating season and a franchise-worst 13 game losing streak.

In the first year under Coach Chip Kelly, they went backward.

Now, San Francisco faces an offseason change with the goal of returning the organization to upper echelon spot it has held so often in the league's history.

Owner Jed York and the 49ers' key decision-makers were expected to replace both the GM Trent Baalke and Kelly, multiple sources said prior to Sunday evening's developments.

A full house-cleaning is described as "likely" by several people.
