RICHMOND -- Three people were shot in the northern part of Richmond Tuesday night. One of those victims will likely not survive his wounds, according to Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan. The shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the area of Cherry Street and Alamo Avenue, across from Shield Reid Park, Gagan said. Officers responding to the area located two men in their early 20s suffering from gunshot wounds, Gagan said. They were both airlifted to an area hospital for treatment. One is in surgery and listed in critical condition, and the other is on life support, Gagan said. "The one who is on life support has suffered, I am told, a non-surviveable gunshot wound to the head," he said. A few hours later, a third shooting victim, who had been shot in the leg, was located, according to Gagan. That victim is in good condition. Details on the shooting are sketchy as few witnesses have come forward, even though Gagan believes dozens of people witnessed the shooting. "No one's telling us anything," he said. The motive for the shooting has not yet been determined, but police are investigating the possibility that the incident is related to other recent shootings in the city. "This investigation is looking into the fact that there was a shooting last night also involving Hispanic-on-Hispanic violence...to see if there is a connection," Gagan said.
