Where Alameda County Residents Can Get Free Sandbags

Residents in Alameda and Contra Costa counties can get free sandbags at the following locations:

SANDBAG STATIONS

COUNTYWIDE: The Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services offers sand and bags at these locations day or night, unless otherwise noted, but residents must bring their own shovels:

  • Byron Airport, 3000 Armstrong Road. Contact sheriff's dispatch, 925-646-2441 for an appointment.
  • Contra Costa Fire Station #4, 700 Hawthorne Dr., Walnut Creek
  • West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Road, Richmond
  • Antioch Fairgrounds, 10th and L streets

ALBANY: Sand, bags and shovels are available at Ocean View Park off Buchanan Street. Shovels are provided, but bringing your own is recommended. 510-524-9543.

ANTIOCH: Residents can get up to 20 sandbags at 1201 W. 4th St. from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Some bags are left out after-hours in case of emergencies. 925-779-6950.

CONCORD: Residents can take up to 25 sandbags at the corporation yard, 1455 Gasoline Alley. Call ahead for pickup from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, 925-671-3448.

DUBLIN: Up to 15 bags per household are available from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. weekdays at the city's corporation yard, 5600 Scarlett Court. 925-833-6630.

LIVERMORE: Ready-made sandbags are available in front of the city's maintenance service center, 3500 Robertson Park Road. Sand and bags are available for residents to fill their own at fire station No. 8, 5750 Scenic Ave. 925-960-8020.

PLEASANT HILL: The following stations are open 24 hours and equipped with two shovels, about 100 burlap bags and 5 cubic yards of sand. 925-671-4646.
  • City Hall public parking lot, northeast corner of Gregory Lane and Trelany Road.
  • Monticello Avenue, south end of the vacant school parking lot nearest to Oak Park Boulevard.
  • Community Center parking lot, northwest corner off of Civic Drive behind the police department.

SAN RAMON: Sand and bags near the tennis courts at Central Park, Alcosta Boulevard and Bollinger Canyon Road. Residents must bring their own shovels. 925-973-2800.

WALNUT CREEK: Sand and bags are available at the following stations. Residents must bring their own shovels. 925-943-5855.

  • The north end of Heather Farm Park on North Carlos Road.
  • Larkey Park parking lot, at Buena Vista and First avenues.
  • Lancaster Road, near Orchard Lane.
