The massive Carr Fire that killed two firefighters and four civilians has now destroyed 965 homes, CalFire officials said Tuesday night. That's up from 884 homes previously reported destroyed.

CalFire officials said Tuesday as of 5 p.m., evacuation orders have been lifted in the Montgomery Ranch area, including Texas Springs Road, Montgomery Ranch Road, Camino Del Encina Drive and all other roadways in this area. Officials said road closures remain in place at Texas Springs Road at Placer Road and Montgomery Ranch Road at Placer Road. There will be no access to Placer Raod.

The wildfire burning near Redding, California for more than a week has scorched 176 square miles, fire officials said.

On Tuesday afternoon the Redding Police department released a list of names of people who are listed as missing in the fire. The list contained 20 names as of 2:20 p.m.

But fire crew have gained some ground and increased containment to 30 percent.

It is believed to be the ninth most destructive fire in state history.

More than 27,000 people remained evacuated from their homes although another 10,000 were allowed to return Monday as fire crews reinforced lines on the western end of the blaze.

Meanwhile, firefighters from across the United States are being sent to California to help crews stretched to the limit as they battle 17 wildfires across the state.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says firefighters from 10 states are already helping and another six states will send resources this week.

The agency says the out-of-state fire crews will relieve exhausted California firefighters who have been working non-stop for two weeks.
