Woman Struck And Killed In Peninsula Caltrain Accident

Posted: 8:43 am PST February 1, 2006Updated: 6:10 pm PST February 1, 2006

Caltrain service was restored in both directions after being closed for almost two hours following a fatal accident Wednesday, Caltrain spokesman Jonah Weinberg said.

The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on the tracks at Brewster Avenue and Arguello Street, adjacent to the Brewster Wash and Dry Laundromat, located at 701 Brewster Ave.

Hazmat crews cleaned up the scene of the accident and what remained of the woman's body on the southbound side of the tracks has been placed in a black body bag. Two San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies held up a yellow tarp shielding the body from the public while an official with the San Mateo County Coroner's office investigated the incident.

The body was located about 20 feet from guardrail next to chain-link fence. Warning signs reminding pedestrians not to cross the tracks are visible from the scene of the accident.

The body was removed from the tracks shortly before 9:30 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. a train came through, presumably the train involved in the accident.
